Chu Lai is an open economic zone as well as the tourist and economic hub of Quang Nam Province, promising a wonderful experience for visitors looking for a tranquil getaway in the middle of pure nature. Ly Son Island: From Chu Lai, you can travel to Ly Son island, a destination that has long been praised as a paradise in the heart of the ocean. Ly Son is called the Jeju island of Vietnam because of numerous relics from past volcanoes since millions of years ago. Clear sea water combined with the velvet dark rocks and fiery red larva, create a natural and vibrant scenery.
Chu Lai food scene is very characteristic of Quang Nam, especially steamy and tasty “Mỳ Quảng” and crispy pork spring rolls. Quang Nam noodle is made of rice flour with big, white, and chewy strands, to be enjoy with pork, chicken, snakehead fish, or roasted peanuts and dipped in delicious sauce.
Chu Lai is a coastal province, therefore local cuisine is mostly made up of seafood, like delicious and nutritious baby squids. The squids are small but chewy, sweet, and thick – they are caught at Ngang Beach between March and August. Baby squids are used in a variety of popular snacks like steamed squids, fried squids in ginger fish sauce, pineapple stir fried squids, and pork stuffed squids.
Another popular specialty of Quang Nam is langsat fruit. It can only be found in Tien Phuoc and Dai Loc regions, and usually plump with its pretty yellow hue when ripe. It has a sharp sweetness and strong flavor that are extremely hard to resist.
In Chu Lai, besides visiting natural scenery and famous cultural and historical attractions, you can swim in the ocean, experience fun activities like kayaking and scuba diving at Ly Son island. Taking fantastic photos while having fun here is absolutely fulfilling to your hidden romantic side.
Staying here on the lunar 15th day of March, you will take part in the Proxy and Allegiance Ceremony of Hoang Sa soldiers on Ly Son island. It’s a national cultural ceremony that celebrates and pays homage to the deceased soldiers who risked their lives for the sovereignty of Vietnam’s two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
Travelers will take a flight to Chu Lai and arrive at Chu Lai Airport. This is the most ideal stop to travel to Quang Ngai and Ly Son island afterwards. The airport is 42km to 1 hour from the center of Quang Ngai City (Quang Ngai), and 34km or 50 minutes from Tam Ky City (Quang Nam) by car. One can also take a taxi or shuttle airport bus. Bus No. 12 (Chu Lai – Quang Ngai) pick up passengers within 20 minutes of their arrival at the airport’s terminal gate. Bus fare is around VND35,000/passenger. Taxi charges passengers on average of VND500,000 to 600,000/ride.
