Passengers with wheelchairs

Vietnam Airlines provides assistance services to passengers who have mobility difficulties and require wheelchairs.

Wheelchair Service

Passengers with limited mobility may choose any of the following two options:

  • Carry their personal wheelchairs in the checked or carry-on baggage. Wheelchairs are not included in the free luggage allowance and are not charged. Please see the Conditions for Transporting Wheelchairs and Mobility Aids.
  • Use the free wheelchair service provided by Vietnam Airlines including: Wheelchairs in the passenger cabin, on and off the plane, and on the apron.

Vietnam Airlines accepts carriage for passengers with limited mobility who are healthy and do not require medical clearance. Please click here for more details on passengers requiring medical clearance.


Booking the wheelchair service

If passengers bring their wheelchairs on board, please provide the staff with the following information when purchasing tickets:

  • For manual wheelchairs: Wheelchair dimensions (length, width, and height), weight, folding capability, and the presence of a gas shock absorber.
  • For battery-operated electric wheelchairs: Wheelchair dimensions (length, width, and height), weight, folding capability, the presence of a gas shock absorber, and battery type.

If passengers book Vietnam Airlines' wheelchair service, please use one of the following methods:

Service charges

Service charges: No change.

Service type provided: Wheelchair service in the passenger cabin, on and off the plane, and on the apron.


Counter check-in

To have a smooth flight, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least one hour before the normal check-in time.

At several airports, Vietnam Airlines offers various priority services for passengers requiring the wheelchair service:

  • There are priority counters to assist passengers.
  • Arrange staff and use specialized equipment such as wheelchairs, forklifts, and other special equipment to serve passengers in the terminal, when boarding/departing the aircraft, and in the aircraft's passenger cabin.
  • At airports without specialist passenger service equipment, Vietnam Airlines staff will work with passengers' companions (if any) to help them board and get off the plane.

  • Pleiku Airport – Gia Lai City
  • Buon Me Thuot Airport – Dak Lak Province

On flight

Vietnam Airlines will arrange suitable seats for passengers and ensure their safety on the flights.

If requested, Vietnam Airlines cabin crew will assist passengers in:

  • Moving into the aircraft cabin;
  • Supporting passengers in completing immigration forms as required by relevant countries (on international flights).

Notes: Please be aware that our cabin crew is unable to provide passengers with any assistance for personal care needs such as feeding, elimination functions including assistance inside the lavatory, or other personal care needs. Cabin crew are trained only in first aid and are not permitted to administer any injection or medication.

At the arrival airport

Vietnam Airlines will have staff ready to assist passengers in getting off the plane and completing their journey.
