1. General Limitation
In addition to dangerous goods forbidden to be transported in accordance with current IATA DGR, VNA has some variations to be published in section 2.8 of IATA DGR as follows:
a) Except for dangerous goods which do not require Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods (DGD) , all dangerous goods prior to being accepted, shipper shall make advance arrangement of procedures with Vietnam Airlines’s branches in the point of origin..
b) VNA does not accept dangerous goods in excepted quantity, except for radioactive material in “Empty packages” (UN2908 and UN2911, Radioactive material, excepted package - instruments).
c) Dangerous Goods in Airmail are not accepted for carriage, except for lithium batteries in 2.4.2 (d) and (e) IATA DGR on the condition that the designated postal operators meet requirements of IATA DGR.
d) Vietnam Airlines does not accept all dangerous goods of packing group I.
e) Vietnam Airlines does not accept UN 3480, Lithium ion batteries and UN 3090, Lithium metal batteries (all sections IA, IB and II of Packing Instructions 965 and 968).
f) Class 1- All kinds of explosives are not accepted for carriage, except for division 1.4S.
g) Class 2 - Flammable gas and toxic gas are not accepted for carriage, except COMAT parts and supplies.
h) Class 4 - All dangerous goods of division 4.3 are not accepted for carriage.
i) Class 7 - Radioactive Material packed in type B(U); type B(M) and type(C); SCO or LSA packed in industrial packages and Radioactive; Material with Transport Index exceeding 3 are not accepted for carriage.
j) Class 9 - Yeast active; Dry Ice exceeding 400 kg; Polymeric beads or Granules and Magnetized materials exceeding 2000 kg are not accepted for carriage.
k) Dangerous goods in consolidation are not accepted for carriage, except for:
- ID8000 consumer commodities
- UN1845 carbon dioxide solid or dry ice when used as a refrigerant for non - dangerous goods
- Consolidation having one master air waybill with one house air waybill
- Consolidations of lithium ion/metal cells and batteries under Section II of Packing Instructions 966, 967, 969, 970.
2. Limitation in each flight
Acceptance limitations of dangerous goods in each flight are as follows:
2.1. Explosive substances
Total net weight of explosives is not over 250 kg into each hold (FWD/AFT hold).
2.2. Magnetized materials
Magnetized materials can be loaded in the aircraft with certain limitation (under 2,000 kg of net weight) when:
- They are packed in such a way that the polarities of them oppose each other;
- Having appropriate shielding sheets during packing;
- Permanent magnets, where possible, have keeper bars installed.
2.3. Motorcycles
In addition to IATA packing instructions, note to ensure that:
- Fuel tank is completely empty of fuel;
- Wet batteries must be removed from motorcycle and packed separately;
- Absolutely disconnect starter devices, reduce pressure of tyres.
2.4. Radioactive materials
Vietnam Airlines accepts radioactive materials packed empty package and type A package only which transport index is not exceeded 3 per package and total transport indexes are not exceeded 10 for each flight.
2.5. Carbon dioxide solid (Dry ice)
Loading of dry ice in the same hold with live animals or hatching eggs must be limited. Dry ice shall not be stowed above packages containing live animals and in close proximity of live animals.
Maximum limitation for Dry Ice per compartment of aircraft is as follows:
A321 100 kg 180 kg
B777, B787/A330, A350 150 kg 250 kg
The maximum weight of Dry ice per aircraft is not allowed to be over Dry Ice for the two holds.
For ATR72 aircrafts, Dry ice is not accepted except Dry ice used for refrigeration purposes, which total net quantities must not be exceeded 20 kg per flight.
