Air tickets

To check in at an airport, a passenger must have a valid air ticket. Air tickets can be in hard copy or electronic form. Passengers who use electronic tickets must show the tickets provided to them via email or stored in the iPhone's Wallet application.


Travel documents

Passengers taking flights to Vietnam must bring one of the original, valid travel documents with photos:

  • Passport;
  • Travel pass or loose-leaf visa;
  • Citizen identity card (if Vietnam and the relevant country sign a treaty or international agreement allowing citizens of the signatory countries to use Citizen ID cards instead of passports in each other's territory);
  • Types of cards, such as permanent residence cards and temporary residence cards;
  • Other documentation of entry and exit value as prescribed by law;
  • When infants do not have a passport, their full names, date of birth, and stamped portrait photo should be in the travel document of the legitimate representative, including: Biological father, biological mother, foster father, foster mother, or guardian.

Visa

Vietnam transit visa

Passengers are required to have transit visas when their itineraries include a Vietnam domestic segment. Transit visa restrictions may vary from time to time; thus, Vietnam Airlines recommends that passengers review the applicable regulations before each flight.

For the most recent visa and entry regulations, passengers should visit the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and follow the instructions.

Non-Vietnamese nationals are required to obtain a visa to enter Vietnam. Non-Vietnamese passengers can apply for a visa or an electronic visa (e-visa) to save time.

General visa application instructions

If passengers require a visa to enter Vietnam, go to the Ministry of Public Security's Public Service Portal and follow the instructions.

Instructions for applying for an electronic visa (E-visa)

The Vietnam Immigration Department issues electronic visas (e-visas) to non-Vietnamese nationals via an online visa application process. For more information on the e-visa issuance process, please refer to the detailed instructions on the e-visa issuance steps.

Visa exemption for entering Vietnam

Passengers in the following cases may enter Vietnam without a visa under certain conditions:

  • Passengers holding nationality from one of the following thirteen countries: Belarus, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Italian Republic, the French Republic, Denmark, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Norway, Japan, Finland, Sweden, the Kingdom of Spain, and passengers who are officials of the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The above policy is effective until March 14, 2025.
  • In addition, Vietnam exempts visas for countries with bilateral agreements such as Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Laos, the Philippines, Myanmar, Brunei, etc. for a certain period of stay.   • Non-Vietnamese nationals entering Phu Quoc from overseas are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 30 days. This policy also applies to transit cases that start at a Vietnamese international border gate (including air and sea routes) and continue to Phu Quoc Island.

Quarantine regulations
