Passengers requiring medical oxygen service

Vietnam Airlines provides medical oxygen service to passengers on flights with some specific requirements. Please read the information below to properly prepare the required paperwork for your flight.

Service booking instructions

Passengers book the service at least 72 hours before the departure time in the following forms:

  • At Vietnam Airlines branch offices;
  • Or request the service online using the form here

Please be informed that the medical oxygen service is subject to Vietnam Airlines' supply capacity on each flight.

Service charges

Oxygen service for medical use on board

  • For the person escorting a passenger who uses an oxygen tank: Apply fare and free baggage allowance for regular passengers.
  • For passengers using oxygen service on board: Apply the regular passenger fares. Double the free baggage allowance for the itinerary when using the service.
  • Charges for using oxygen service on board include:
    • Charge for using portable oxygen units on board:
      • For Vietnam domestic sectors: VND 2,000,000 per oxygen unit (net charge, exclusive of VAT)
      • For international sectors: USD 200 per oxygen unit
    • The rate for a seat occupied by a portable oxygen unit: Equals the highest fare applicable to adults with the same class of service, plus Vietnam Airlines' surcharge for each seat with an oxygen tank installed.

Notes:

  • For itineraries to/from the US, oxygen for medical use on board is free of charge.
  • The charge shall not include the costs of ambulances, hospitalizations, expenses of companions, or other expenses (if any).

Service for passengers on stretchers using oxygen tanks

  • The person escorting a passenger on a stretcher with an oxygen tank: Apply fare and free baggage allowance for regular passengers.
  • For passengers on stretchers with oxygen tanks: Apply the fare as a regular passenger and 06 times the weight of the free baggage allowance for the itinerary using the service.
  • Charge of oxygen and stretcher service:
    • Charge for using portable oxygen units on board:
      • For Vietnam domestic sectors: VND 2,000,000 per oxygen unit (net charge, exclusive of VAT)
      • For international sectors: USD 200 per oxygen unit
    • The rate for a seat occupied by a portable oxygen unit: Equals the highest fare applicable to adults with the same class of service, plus Vietnam Airlines' surcharge for each seat with an oxygen tank installed.
    • Charge of stretcher service: Vietnam Airlines charges six times the highest fare rate for adults in the same class of service, plus additional surcharges for stretchers and oxygen tanks

Notes: For itineraries to/from the US, oxygen for medical use on board is free of charge.


Document preparation

Passengers requesting oxygen service have to complete MEDIF I and MEDIF II. The passenger’s physician should specify the liters-per-minute flow rate required in the forms above.

Passengers using the medical oxygen service must have a companion. The companion needs to meet the following conditions:

  • Possess a medical certificate and the necessary professional qualifications to care for passengers;
  • Can assist passengers in escaping in emergencies.

Counter check-in

At the airport, please be aware that:

  • The special services have been booked and confirmed by Vietnam Airlines;
  • Have all required documents, which are still valid;
  • At the time of check-in at the airport, the passenger is in good health to take the flight;
  • The carriage of the passenger does not affect the safety of the aircraft, cabin crew, or other passengers, or their property. 

Vietnam Airlines recommends passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time. 

Notes: For safety reasons, passengers do not use oxygen tanks while waiting at the departure airport. 


On the aircraft

Vietnam Airlines cabin crew will assist passengers in installing, adjusting, and replacing oxygen tanks according to Vietnam Airlines regulations.


At the arrival airport

Vietnam Airlines officials will contact the ground service company, security department, customs, and border police to help passengers and their companions during the check-out process.
